Where’s the Budget?, Election Power Grab Challenge, Germanfest, and More

Where’s the Budget?

Today was our scheduled adjournment day…and that didn’t happen. Late yesterday Speaker Welch scheduled us to be in session both Saturday and Sunday.

The hold-up is the budget. House Republicans were completely cut out of the budget process again this year, and we have yet to see any proposals from the Democrat majority. You will remember that just a few weeks ago it was confirmed that Governor Pritzker’s budget proposal has an $800 million deficit, and he is leveraging support for tax increases he has proposed by threatening cuts to programs legislative Democrats prize.

I’ll pass along details of the budget when we are finally allowed to see it.

Court Challenge to Election Power-Grab

A judge has issued a temporary injunction blocking Democrats’ mid-cycle elections law passed earlier this month. Here’s what you should know about the court challenge:

Honoring Military Heroes

The House Memorial Day ceremony was held this week, honoring the members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have lost their lives in service to our nation.

Memorial Day on Monday is a reminder of the brave men and women who died while fighting in the U.S. Armed Forces. While Memorial Day is usually a holiday marking the beginning of summer, we must also remember the heroes who made our freedom possible.

Quincy Germanfest!

Germanfest is almost here! Germanfest 2024 will be held on Friday, May 31 (5pm-11pm) and Saturday, June 1 (3pm-11pm) in Quincy’s South Park. There will be German music, food and refreshments.

The event is free and open to the public. Bring a chair!
