Frese “saddened but not surprised” by Madigan corruption indictment

State Representative Randy Frese today said he was not surprised by the announced federal indictment of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan.  Rep. Frese (R-Paloma) stressed that it’s past time to enact tough ethics reforms for elected officials that will finally put an end to Illinois’ “Culture of Corruption.”

“Absolute power corrupts absolutely…and Speaker Madigan ruled the Illinois legislature with an iron fist for more than 30 years. I’m saddened, but not surprised by Wednesday’s indictments,” Rep Frese said. “Democrats who still control the House need to join us in taking a hard look at how we stop this from continuing to happen. We need to work together to pass real, responsible ethics safeguards now.”

Madigan (D-Chicago) was Wednesday afternoon indicted on federal charges of racketeering conspiracy and bribery following a two-year long investigation that had also resulted in charges filed against several of his close associates and his longtime Chief of Staff.
