Frese: New Leadership Coming to Department of Veterans Affairs

With more COVID deaths recently reported at Illinois’ LaSalle Veterans Home, State Representative Randy Frese and other Republican lawmakers today again sought action or new leadership at the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. Shortly after the committee hearing, current DVA Director Linda Chapa LaVia submitted her resignation. Watch Rep. Frese’s exchange with Chapa LaVia here.

“I never take satisfaction from others’ misfortunes. My best wishes to Linda Chapa LaVia in all her future endeavors,” Rep. Frese said upon learning of her resignation. “We have witnessed many sad events unfold for our veterans and their families. I hope we now find ourselves on a road to healing for all.”

Governor Pritzker has announced that Major General Peter Nezamis will Serve as Interim DVA Director.  Nezamis is a 34-Year Veteran of the Air National Guard and Current Assistant Adjutant General.
